Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in the life of a Paralympic rifle athlete? Today, let's take a closer look at a day in my own life!

After the sun rises in Maryland, my day begins fueled by determination and dedication. All Olympic and Paralympic athletes need these things for the years ahead pursuing the next Games. The day starts with mental and physical preparation for the challenges that lie ahead. Morning yoga stretches, light weights, and breath work follow endless nights of trying to envision 10.9s in my dreams, a perfect shot score.

Whether the day has a practice match and coaching ahead, or will be focused on holds or dry fire time with my SCATT system, there's work to be done. Grant applications, planning the registration and travel for the next matches, and working on nutrition and physical therapy are just a few of my daily tasks.

Athletes in Paralympic (and Olympic) shooting sports meticulously prepare their equipment. Each piece of this elite gear is carefully inspected and maintained to ensure optimal performance-- every time it's used. From the precision rifle itself to the sights, custom jacket and sling, the unique glove, handstop, and the specialized adaptive equipment, every detail is essential for success in this precision sport.

Hours of practice and focus go into perfecting the technique and skill required to be one of the top athletes. I work to hone my skills with each shot. I evaluate my breathing, my body's position and my NPA (natural point of aim) with scrutiny, needing to control every heartbeat. One extra beat at the wrong time can lose a match. Patience and perseverance are crucial as I strive for consistency and accuracy with every pellet that goes toward my target, with only a 0.5mm bullseye at 10 meters, and nothing to enhance my vision such as a scope or optic.

Throughout the week, I work closely with my coaches, receiving feedback and guidance to improve my performance. Together, we analyze each shot and review my position and technique, making adjustments to achieve near-perfect results.

As the sun sets on another day, I reflect on my progress, set new goals for improvement, and continue to dream of being the best in the world by the time the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games come around. Dedication, discipline, and an immense love for this challenging sport drive me to push boundaries and reach new heights in my Paralympic journey.

Behind the scenes of any Paralympic air rifle shooter's life lies a world of hard work, passion, and unwavering commitment. It is a testament to the resilience, strength and perseverance of these athletes who overcome extra challenges and defy expectations on their quest for excellence.

Keep checking back for more insights into the world of Paralympic air rifle shooting, and join me in celebrating the incredible athletes who I am honored to be learning with and from, and competing against. Go Team USA!
